Spangler, Westmont, and Nanty Glo will not field teams this summer, which means 12 teams will compete in the Cambria County American Legion Baseball League in 2012. The decrease in teams is just one of a number of changes to be seen in 2012.
Several other changes will soon be announced that will affect play during the 2012 season. The major change this season will be the implementation of the BBCOR bat standard. The BBCOR bat standard is used by NCAA and NFHS and will now be used by American Legion Baseball as well. The intention of the BBCOR bat standard is to decrease the exit velocity of batted balls, which should decrease injuries to pitchers and fielders. It will also affect the amount of offense in American Legion games going forward.
In addition, Pennsylvania has proposed a change to all-wooden bats in 2013, but it remains to be seen if the rule will actually be implemented.
