Lilly will be on of four teams playing this weekend in the inaugural Division II American Legion baseball championship at Central Columbia High School outside Bloomsburg. The Division II concept, aimed to give small-zone teams a championship of their own to play for, is being piloted in Pennsylvania this year, after being successfully used for several years in Minnesota. Lilly reached the Final Four by winning the Somerset pod on July 15, downing Jeannette of District 31, 8-0, and Young Township of the Indiana County League, 3-2, then claiming the Southwest Region title on July 17 by defeating Marion Center of the Indiana County League, 4-3, in dramatic, walk-off fashion. The state DII tournament will be a double-elimination event, opening at 3:30 p.m. with Mifflinburg taking on Hamburg. At 7 p.m. Lilly will face McConnellsburg. There will be three games Saturday before a state DII champ is crowned on Sunday. |
